This week, the INTA Committee will vote on its position on the new Generalized Scheme of Tariff Preferences (GSP) Regulation, which will be the basis for the upcoming negotiations with the Council. First, INTA Members will vote in the evening of 2 May on the amendments tabled, followed by a vote on the INTA position as a whole and the entry into inter-institutional negotiations on 3 May.

Under the GSP Regulation, the EU grants unilateral tariff preferences to developing countries. As the Regulation governing the GSP expires at the end of 2023, the Commission proposed a successor regime for the period 2024-2033 in September 2021. The new Regulation will need to be agreed between the European Parliament and by the Council in order to enter into force.
