Members debated the provisional agreement on the 2024 EU Budget found by the negotiators from the European Parliament and the Council last Saturday. The deal sets an overall level of appropriations of EUR 189 385.4 million in commitments and EUR 142 630.3 million in payments. The deal adds EUR 666.5 million in commitment appropriations on top of the Commission's Draft Budget as amended by the Amending Letter to fund priorities requested by the Parliament

Members from the BUDG and ECON Committees exchanged views with Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira on the implementation of the Technical Support Instrument (TSI). This discussion was organised to ensure greater transparency and accountability in implementing the instrument. The discussion also covered gender mainstreaming, as one of the TSI's flagship project aims at increasing the awareness of policies for promoting Gender Equality across seven Member States.

Members adopted a report on a Commission proposal to mobilize the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF) in favour of Belgium to support the reintegration in the labour market of 421 workers no longer active at Makro Cash & Carry Belgium NV, due to the company's bankruptcy.

Members from the Committees on Budgets and on Budgetary Control debated the implementation of the Rule of Law Conditionality mechanism with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for Budget and Administration, and Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights.

In light of the constant debate on the future of the EU budget and given the challenges the EU faces, the Committee on Budgets commissioned an in-depth study on options for a stronger and more agile EU budget.

Members of the BUDG, CONT and FEMM Committees discussed gender mainstreaming in the EU budget with the European Commission, the OECD, EIGE and UN Women, as part of the gender equality week of the European Parliament.
