Creating Labour Market Conditions Favourable for Work-Life Balance

On 22 March 2016 from 10:00 - 12:30 EMPL organised a joint hearing with FEMM on Creating Labour Market Conditions Favourable for Work-Life Balance.

Following the withdrawal of the Commission proposal to amend the Maternity Leave Directive and having in view the announcement in the Commission Work Programme 2015 of a new initiative, addressing the issue in a broader and comprehensive way, namely the Roadmap "New start to address the challenges of work-life balance faced by working families", EMPL and FEMM, the two EP Committees with competences in this field, decided to draft jointly, an own initiative report on "Creating Labour Market conditions Favourable for Work-Life Balance". The report is to serve as an input into the Commission's Roadmap and provide the position of the Parliament on the work-life balance policies. The co-rapporteurs are: Tatjana ZDANOKA (Greens/EFA) for EMPL and Vilija BLINKEVIČIŪTĖ (S&D) for FEMM.
This Hearing is considered as base of the future EP report mentioned above and will analyse different aspects of working conditions and industrial relations, sociology of work and gender policies in work, in view of adapting the EU legal and policy framework to today's labour market and to allow for parents with children or with dependent family members to better balance professional responsibilities with caring responsibilities and private life, as well as to examine measures for increasing female employment.
