In the course of the REGI Committee meeting of Wednesday 19 February, Anna Wagner (deputy head of Commission’s Political and Interinstitutional Coordination, Strategic Management, DG REGIO) presented the Just Transition Fund proposal to the Members. The first legislative proposal implementing the priorities set out in the European Green Deal is the proposal on a JTF, which has been referred to the REGI Committee as lead committee, rapporteur is Mr Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP).

On Wednesday, 19 February 2020, the workshop on “Just Transition Fund” took place during the REGI Committee meeting. The invited experts provided the information about the social and economic challenges linked to the energy transition and helped to assess the recent legislative proposal establishing the Just Transition Fund. The workshop was dedicated to this ongoing legislative report whose rapporteur is Mr Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP).

On Thursday, 20 February 2020, the REGI committee held an exchange of views with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). Frédéric Vallier, Secretary General of CEMR, presented their organization and main concerns in the context of the reform of cohesion policy for the programming period 2021-2027.
