On 23 February, 17:45 – 18:45, ECON Members held an exchange of views with Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for A Europe Fit for the Digital Age and Commissioner for Competition, on the Digital Markets Act and Digital Services Act legislative proposals.

The exchange of views covered the main objectives of both proposals and the new regime intended for digital services. ECON Members discussed the proposed rules of the Digital Services package with a particular interest in the new rule of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Amongst other details, the additional value brought by the new rules built on past experience from competition and market investigations and to be applied as an alternative instrument to the assessment of a potential abuse of dominance were in the focus. All discussants emphasised the importance of the ability to react quickly to distortive behaviour to keep markets open.
