The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) will hold a public hearing on the “Global role of the euro” on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, from 14:30 to 16:00.
On Thursday 9 April 2026, the ECON Committee held an Economic Dialogue with Valdis Dombrovskis, Commissioner for Economy and Productivity; Implementation and Simplification.
On Thursday 9 April 2026, ECON Members discussed with Andrew Bailey, Chair of the Financial Stability Board (FSB), issues concerning financial stability. This exchange of views was taking place against the backdrop of geopolitical fragility and increased macro-economic risks.

The latest ESGAB annual report provides recommendations and insights on the current governance framework for European statistics. This shed light on the subsequent second exchange of views with the DG of Eurostat, Ms Mariana Kotzeva.
On Wednesday 18 March 2026, Dominique Laboureix, the Chair of the SRB which is tasked with dealing with distressed banks in the Banking Union, appeared for the first time in 2026 in the ECON Committee. Mr Laboureix was expected to touch upon currently relevant topics in the context of SIU, including the targeted consultation by the Commission on competitiveness of the EU banking sector.
