Public hearing on "Distributed solar energy and prosumers"
The aim of the hearing was to engage in an open debate with relevant stakeholders on this important topic. Distributed solar power generation is an approach to provide solar energy by deploying tools and technologies in proximity to the end users of the power.
Active energy consumers, often called 'prosumers' as they both consume and produce electricity, could dramatically change the electricity system. Various types of prosumers exist: residential prosumers who produce electricity at home (mainly through solar photovoltaic panels on their rooftops), citizen-led energy cooperatives or housing associations, commercial prosumers whose main business activity is not electricity production, and public institutions like schools or hospitals.
