Commissioner for Justice, Didier REYNDERS, presented in LIBE the main elements of the Commission's 2022 Rule of Law Report, adopted on 13 July 2022. As in previous years, the report had four chapters, relating to the justice system, the anti-corruption framework, media pluralism and other institutional issues related to checks and balances.

The Commission took on board some recommendations contained in Parliament's resolution of 19 May 2022 on the Commission's 2021 Rule of Law report, including:

  • coverage of public service media;
  • an overview of the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights;
  • country-specific recommendations.

MEPs had an exchange of views with the Commissioner on the content of the 2022 rule of law report and on how to improve the reports further.
