Utfrågningar

Ett utskott får anordna utfrågningar med sakkunniga om en sådan utfrågning är nödvändig för dess arbete i ett visst ärende. Utfrågningar kan även anordnas gemensamt av två eller flera utskott. De flesta utskott anordnar regelbundna utfrågningar eftersom utfrågningarna gör det möjligt för utskotten att lyssna till sakkunniga och anordna diskussioner om viktiga ämnen. The European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs organised a public hearing to acquire expert insight on recent developments in the US in the field of banking and financial services and on prospects of future cooperation in this field, including in the context of international institutions and fora.

Financial services

On Thursday 1 July, 13.45-15.45, the Members of AIDA Special Committee and of ECON Committee will hold a joint hearing on AI and Financial Services. In the two panels representatives from the European Commission, the European Central Bank, the European Supervisory Authorities and from the private sector and from civil society will share their views on the potential and limits of AI use in financial services, and on how to mitigate potential negative side-effects.

On 26 May, from 16:45 to 18:45, the Committees on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) organised jointly a public hearing on Sustainable Finance.

On 23 March 2021 from 13:45 to 15:45, the Committees on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and Legal Affairs (JURI) organised jointly a public hearing on "Wirecard – Lessons learnt".

On 2 December 2020 from 13:45 to 15:45 the ECON Committee organised a public hearing on "Improving the Accountability of the European Central Bank".

Parliament has set out its position on an ambitious coronavirus recovery plan to reboot the EU economy. MEPs are calling for citizens, the environment and digitalisation to be at the heart of the next long-term budget and the economic recovery.

On 15 June from 15.45 to 18.45, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will hold a public hearing with IMF and OECD chief economists (Gopinath and Boone) and top academics (Gourinchas, Gabor, Hoogduin, Giacché and Pettifor) on "The COVID-19 outbreak, its expected impact on the EU economy and possible policy responses including monetary and fiscal measures" to receive first-hand information and discuss policy options to respond to the crisis in the best possible way.

European Investment Bank

On 26 May from 10.00 to 12.00, the Committees on Budgets and on Economic and Monetary Affairs organised jointly a public hearing on “The role of the European Investment Bank in the EU response to the COVID-19 outbreak and the post-crisis recovery”.
