On 16 July 2021, the first Global State of Human Rights conference will take place at the Monastery of San Nicolò – Venice-Lido (Italy) and at the European Parliament (Brussels), to discuss the state of Human Rights in the world. This event, jointly organised by the Global Campus of Human Rights and the European Parliament, will gather MEPs, EU Commissioners, Nobel Peace Prize Recipients, Sakharov Prize Laureates, International organisations’ high representatives, academia and stakeholders.

Participants include the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, the President of Global Campus of Human Rights, Veronica Gomez, regional and local authorities, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, the Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, Stefano Sannino, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnès Callamard, and Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize Recipient 2018 and Sakharov Prize Laureate 2014.
In three panels, speakers will explore how to use the newly approved EU law on due diligence to make business responsive to human rights, how international justice can help ensure accountability, and what challenges a values-based foreign policy faces when responding to human rights and democracy issues around the world.
