Presentation of ECA Special Report 09/2020 on Discharge 2019
The European Court of Auditors Special report 09/20: “The EU core road network: shorter travel times but network not yet fully functional” aims at assessing progress towards achieving the EU objective of completing a fully functioning TEN-T core road network and the Commission’s role herein. This assessment is of the utmost importance since roads account for the largest share of passenger and freight traffic in Europe.
The ECA found that the development of the TEN-T core road network supported by EU funding and Commission action is making progress but that certain factors hamper full functionality of the TEN- core road network. It recommends that the Commission prioritises investment in the core network, enhances its monitoring arrangements and strengthens its approach to maintenance.
