Meeting of 1 December 2022

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place on Thursday 1 December 2022 at 15.00-16.30.

As main topic on the draft agenda there was an exchange of views on how to deal with China relations in European regions and municipalities held with:

  • Mr Plamen Tonchev, MERICS European China Policy Fellow & Head of Asia Unit, Institute of International Economic Relations (IIER),
  • Ms Ivana Karásková, Project Coordinator and AMO Research Fellow, Association for International Affairs (AMO),
  • Mr Roderick Kefferpütz, Senior Analyst and Head of MERICS Lab, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), and
  • Mr Thomas Schmidt, Mayor of city of Teltow

Meeting of 10 October 2022 in association with SEDE

Meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) in association with the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) took place on Monday 10 October 2022 at 15.00-16.00 with an analysis of China's military intimidation of Taiwan - an exchange of views with:

  • Antoine BONDAZ, Research Fellow and Director at the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique (FRS)

Meeting of 29 September 2022 in association with ING2

The Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the European Union, including Disinformation (ING2) in association with the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) held an exchange of views on Thursday 29 September 2022 at 11.30 - 12.30 with

  • Audrey Tang, Minister of Digital Affairs of Taiwan

Meeting of 5 September 2022 in association with DROI

Meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) in association with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) took place on Monday 5 September 2022 at 15.45-16.30 with an exchange of views on the human rights developments in China and China's action in the global human rights system, in the presence of:

  • Sophie Richardson, China Director, Human Rights Watch

Meeting of 7 July 2022

Re-election of the 1st Vice Chair of the China Delegation

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) was held in Strasbourg on Thursday 7 July 2022.

At this meeting, an election of the 1st Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place and MEP René REPASI (S&D, DE) was elected by acclamation as the China Delegation 1st Vice-Chair.

Meeting of 13 June 2022 (with semi-remote participation)

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place on Monday 13 June 2022 at 16.45-18.15.

The main topics on the draft agenda were:

- re-election of D-CN 1st Vice-Chair
- exchange of views on the global impact of China's internet governance
with a number of outstanding experts in this area:

  • Dr Adam M. Segal, Ira A. Lipman Chair in Emerging Technologies and National Security and Director of the Digital and Cyberspace Policy Program, Council on Foreign Relations, New York
  • Ms Emily de La Bruyère, Senior Fellow, Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Washington D.C.
  • Mr Mikk Raud, Graduate Research Assistant at the Cyber Policy Center, Stanford University

As the quorum was not reached, the election of D-CN 1st Vice-Chair was postponed to a future meeting.

Meeting of 21 March 2022 (with semi-remote participation)

The Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) held an ordinary meeting semi-remotely on Monday 21 March 2022. The main topics on the draft agenda were:

- election of D-CN 1st Vice-Chair
- exchange of views on how to deal with China's economic coercion
- exchange of views on the current status of EU-China relations

As the quorum was not reached, the election of D-CN 1st Vice-Chair was postponed to a future meeting.

This meeting took place in camera.

Meeting of 29 November 2021 (with semi-remote participation)

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China was held on Monday 29 November 2021 with an exchange of views on China's digital yuan with the following speakers:

  • Mr Ulrich Bindseil, Director General, Market Infrastructure and Payments, European Central Bank (ECB)
  • Mr Peter Kerstens, Advisor for technological innovation, digitalisation and cybersecurity, DG Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA), European Commission
  • Mr Martin Chorzempa, Senior Fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE)

Meeting of 25 October 2021 (with semi-remote participation)

The Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China held an ordinary meeting on Monday 25 October 2021 at 10.00-11.30 with semi-remote participation.

The main topic on the agenda was an exchange of views on China's expected role at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow with

  • Mr Byford Tsang, Senior Policy Advisor, Climate Diplomacy, leading China strategy and engagement at the E3G's London office
  • Mr Lutz Weischer, Head of Policy, Germanwatch

Meeting of 21 June 2021 (with remote participation)

An ordinary meeting of the China Delegation with an exchange of views on China's 14th Five-Year Plan was held on Monday 21 June 2021 with following speakers:

  • Mr Joerg Wuttke, President EU Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), Vice President - Chief Representative, BASF (China)
  • Prof Dr Kristin Shi‐Kupfer, the University of Trier, and Senior Associate Fellow at the Mercator Institute for China Studies, MERICS
  • Mr Jude Blanchette, Freeman Chair in China Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) (Washington)
