Meeting of 13 December 2023

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 13 December 2023 at 15.00-16.30 in Strasbourg.

As main topic on the draft agenda there will be an exchange of views with Niclas Kvarnström, newly appointed Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific, EEAS.

Meeting of 18 October 2023

An ordinary meeting of the China Delegation (D-CN) was held on Wednesday 18 October 2023 in Strasbourg.

The main Item on the agenda was an exchange of views on China's economic situation since the end of Covid-19 measures with

  • Mr Jens Eskelund, President of the Executive Committee, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC)
  • Mr François Godement, Special Advisor, Asia and America, Institut Montaigne

Meeting of 13 September 2023 jointly with D-US Delegation

The China Delegation (D-CN) held an ordinary meeting jointly with the United States Delegation (D-US) on Wednesday 13 September 2023 in Strasbourg.

The main Item on the agenda was an exchange of views with:

  • Ryan Hass, Director, John L. Thornton China Center, Brookings Institution, and
  • Jude Blanchette, Freeman Chair in China Studies, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
on US policy towards China and the transatlantic approach to future relations with China.

Meeting of 12 July 2023

The China Delegation (D-CN) held an ordinary meeting on Wednesday 12 July 2023 in Strasbourg.

At this meeting, a re-election of the 2nd Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place and MEP Pernille WEISS (EPP, DK) was elected by acclamation as the China Delegation 2nd Vice-Chair.

Meeting of 22 May 2023

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place on Monday 22 May 2023 at 16.00-17.30 in Brussels.

As main topic on the draft agenda there was an exchange of views on the outcome of the 2023 National People's Congress of China with

  • Dr Mathieu Duchâtel, Director of International Studies, Institut Montaigne, Paris, and
  • Mr Nis Grünberg, Lead Analyst, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), Berlin

Meeting of 21 March 2023 in association with DROI

A meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) in association with the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) took place on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at 9.00-10.00 with a debriefing of the 38th session of the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue held on 17 February 2023 on the agenda.

Meeting of 6 March 2023

An ordinary meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) took place on Monday 6 March 2023 at 15.00-16.30.

As main topic on the draft agenda there was an exchange of views on current developments in the Tibet Autonomous Region in the presence of:
  • Ms Rigzin C. Genkhang, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the EU, Western Europe and the Maghreb, Bureau du Tibet, Brussels
  • Professor Andrew M. Fischer, Professor of Inequality, Social Protection and Development, Institute of Social Studies (The Hague), part of Erasmus University Rotterdam (ISS)
  • Professor Michael van Walt van Praag, Executive President of Kreddha and Senior Fellow at the Sompong Sucharitkul Center for Advanced International Legal Studies, Golden Gate University Law School, San Francisco

Meeting of 1 March 2023 in association with SEDE

Meeting of the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China (D-CN) in association with the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) took place on Wednesday 1 March 2023 at 14.30-16.00 with a public hearing on "Growing military cooperation between Russia and China".

Meeting of 16 February 2023 jointly with D-US Delegation

The China Delegation (D-CN) held an ordinary meeting jointly with the United States Delegation (D-US) on Thursday 16 February 2023 in Strasbourg.

The main Item on the agenda was an exchange of views on transatlantic dialogue and cooperation related to the policy stance on China with:

  • Mr Brian Glynn, EEAS Managing Director for the Americas, and
  • Mr Gunnar Wiegand, EEAS Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific.

As main topic on the draft agenda there was an exchange of views on how to deal with China relations in European regions and municipalities held with:

  • Mr Plamen Tonchev, MERICS European China Policy Fellow & Head of Asia Unit, Institute of International Economic Relations (IIER),
  • Ms Ivana Karásková, Project Coordinator and AMO Research Fellow, Association for International Affairs (AMO),
  • Mr Roderick Kefferpütz, Senior Analyst and Head of MERICS Lab, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), and
  • Mr Thomas Schmidt, Mayor of city of Teltow
