  • Presentation of the report on the mission to Argentina from 18 to 21 December 2023

  • Political situation in Venezuela, with particular reference to the presidential elections scheduled for 2024

  • State of play of the negotiations for the conclusion of the EU-Mercosur Agreement. Reference to mechanisms for controlling deforestation

  • Gender policy in the Mercosur countries: advances and setbacks

DMER item in AFET on 23 January 2024

The European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) had been associated to an Exchange of views with the EEAS on the Venezuela-Guyana border dispute in the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) on 23 January 2024.

DMER Meeting of 7 December 2023

This meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) took place on 7 December 2023 and included the following items of discussion:

  • General elections in Argentina: assessment of results

  • Current situation in Venezuela: analysis of the outcome of the opposition's primary elections and of the agreement in principle adopted in Barbados

  • Impact of the European Union's cooperation policies on Mercosur countries

DMER Meeting of 23 March 2023

This meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) of 23 March 2023 included the following items:

  • Venezuela: the political situation after the end of the interim government of Juan Guaidó and the situation of human rights in the country
In association with the Delegation for Relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil

  • Brazil: monitoring the political landscape in the country following the 2022 general election, with special reference to the European Union-Mercosur Association Agreement

DMER Meeting of 13 October 2022

This meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) took place on 13 October 2022 and included an:

  • Exchange of views on the outcome of the Delegation's mission to Uruguay and Paraguay from 19 to 23 September.

DMER Meeting of 12 May 2022

This meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) took place on 12 May 2022 and included an:

  • Exchange of views on the political situation following the 2021 regional and local elections in Venezuela.

Joint DMER item in AFET on 12 May 2022

In association with the Delegation to the EU-Chile Joint Parliamentary Committee, the Delegation for relations with Mercosur and the Delegation to the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee, there was an Exchange of views with the EEAS and the Commission on the state of play on the envisaged Association Agreements with Mexico, Mercosur and Chile in the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) Meeting on 12 May 2022.

DMER Meeting of 3 February 2022

This meeting of the Delegation for relations with Mercosur (DMER) took place on 3 February 2022 and the following items were discussed:

  • Exchange of views on the political, economic and social situation in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay
  • Exchange of views on the state of EU-Mercosur relations

DMER Meeting of 2 December 2021

This meeting of the Delegation for Relations with Mercosur (DMER) was held semi-remotely on 2 December 2021.

The main topic of this meeting was the election of the new Bureau of the delegation.

DMER Meeting of 11 December 2020

This meeting of the Delegation for Relations with Mercosur (DMER) was held semi-remotely on 11 December 2020 jointly with the Delegation for Relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil (D-BR).

The debate focused on:

  • The state of play of the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement
  • Deforestation in the Amazon
  • The situation in Venezuela following the legislative elections of 6 December 2020.
