Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the website of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with South Africa (D-ZA).

South Africa is an important political and economic partner for the EU. The main goal of our delegation is to promote, through regular contacts with the Parliament of South Africa, constructive relations and enhanced cooperation. We provide a solid parliamentary extension to the EU - South Africa Strategic Partnership.

Together with our South African counterparts, we discuss human rights, democracy, transparency, good governance, development cooperation, trade relations, exchange programmes in scientific and educational field, international affairs and many other topics of common interest.

In coordination with the Chair of the Caucus for European Affairs and the Members of South Africa's parliament, we set the agenda for EU-South Africa inter-parliamentary meetings. These take place once per year, alternating between Strasbourg and in Cape Town. The 26th Inter-parliamentary meeting South Africa-EU took place on 31 October and 1 November 2018 in Cape Town. The primary goal of this meeting was to help creating good auspices for the 7th South Africa-EU Summit, which took place on 15 November 2018 in Brussels.
