By letter of 30 August 2002 the Council consulted Parliament, pursuant to Article 37 in conjunction with Article 300, paragraph 2 and 3 of the EC Treaty, on the proposal for a Council regulation on the conclusion of the Agreement in the form of an Exchange of Letters on the extension of the Protocol setting out the fishing opportunities and the financial contribution provided for by the Agreement between the European Economic Community and the Government of the Republic of Angola on fishing off the coast of Angola for the period from 3 May to 2 August 2002 (COM(2002) 369 - 2002/0148 (CNS)).

At the sitting of 5 September 2002 the President of Parliament announced that he had referred this proposal to the Committee on Fisheries as the committee responsible and the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Development and Cooperation for their opinions(C5-0393/2002).

At its meeting of 12 September 2002, on a proposal from the chairman, the committee decided to approve the proposal without amendment under Rule 158(1), thus appointing its chairman rapporteur. The draft legislative resolution is adopted unanimously

The report was tabled on 19 September 2002.

The proposal is approved.

The European Parliament,

–   having regard to the Commission proposal to the Council (COM(2002) 369[1]),

–   having been consulted by the Council pursuant to Articles 37 in conjunction with Article 300 paragraph 2 and 3 of the EC Treaty (C5‑0393/2002),

–   having regard to Rules 67, 97(7) and 158(1) of its Rules of Procedure,

–   having regard to the report of the Committee on Fisheries (A5‑0314/2002),

1.   Approves the Commission proposal;

2.   Instructs its President to forward its position to the Council and Commission.
