Motion for a European Parliament resolution on establishing a harmonised framework for homeopathic products
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Article 152 of the EU Treaty and Article 100 of the Treaty establishing the European Community,
– having regard to the provisions of Directive 92/73/EEC regarding homeopathic and anthroposophic products,
– having regard to its report A4- 0378/98,
– having regard to the Commission's White Paper 'Together for Health: A Strategic Approach for the EU 2008-2013',
– having regard to the 'Antroposana' case (ECJ Case C-84/06), concerning anthroposophic products,
– having regard to Rule 120 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas more than 100 million European citizens use homeopathy as a form of alternative medicine,
B. whereas homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine which is quite as safe as conventional medicine, as well as being cost-effective, since homeopathic products are manufactured in accordance with high quality standards,
1. Calls on the Commission to modify the existing directive on the subject so as to ensure the free movement of homeopathic products and take proper account of their specific nature;
2. Calls on the Commission to give consideration to revising the directive on homeopathic products with a view to fuller harmonisation within the internal market.
