MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION on funding for the ‘Social tailoring – Dressing for freedom’ project

Motion for a resolution of the European Parliament on funding for the ‘Social tailoring – Dressing for freedom’ project

The European Parliament,

–   having regard to Rule 120 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas combating prostitution and integrating the women thus exploited into society are priority issues for Member States;

B.  having regard to the role of associations, not-for-profit organisations, cooperatives and solidarity organisations, which daily deal with social issues;

C. whereas in the province of Caserta (Italy) the ‘Dressing for freedom’ project has been launched, namely a social tailoring workshop set up in property confiscated from the Castel Volturno mafia, which seeks to help young women, mainly Africans, who have been victims of trafficking and are now enrolled in rehabilitation programmes; whereas this project aims to see former prostitutes reintegrated into society;

1.  Calls on the Commission, in light of the social objectives of the ‘Social tailoring – Dressing for freedom’ project, to support through future pilot projects the same initiative in all the Member States.
