MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION on the regulation of ‘smart drugs’

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the regulation of ‘smart drugs’

The European Parliament,

–   having regard to Rule 120 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas ‘smart drugs’ are marketed, primarily through the web, as alternatives to cannabis, but are in fact produced from laboratory waste;

B.  whereas the authorities in various Member States have uncovered shops selling and distributing illegal substances which are seriously harmful to health;

1.  Calls on the Commission to revise the rules governing ‘smart drugs’, in order to limit substances which can be sold to those which are not harmful to human health;

2. Calls on the Commission to coordinate police checks in the Member States in an effort to ensure that ‘smart drug’ shops are not secretly selling illegal drugs which have devastating effects on the human body.
