Motion for a European Parliament resolution on measures to prevent the spread of the Asian long-horned beetle
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 120 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas the conservation of plant life and natural vegetation helps protect the environment and the planet;
B. whereas thousands of trees have been damaged by the Asian long-horned beetle, an exotic insect whose larvae bore deep into the trunks and branches of various species of broad-leaved trees, thereby killing them;
C. whereas the Asian long-horned beetle is regarded by the European Union as a quarantine pest (Part A of Annex I to Directive 2000/29/EC);
1. Calls on the Commission to channel a suitable degree of funding to projects monitoring the spread of the Asian long-horned beetle and to prevention measures.
