Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the Russian embargo and damage to the EU beef and veal sector
B8‑0255/2014

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas Italian and European livestock breeders' associations have sent the Commission a message to denounce the disastrous consequences the Russian embargo is having on the beef and veal market;

B.     whereas the fall in product prices, caused by excess supply, is jeopardising the survival of thousands of companies and posing a threat to the economy of entire regions, where often there is no alternative source of employment;

C.     whereas European livestock breeders in addition to operators in other sectors affected by the embargo are paying the price of EU policy decisions;

1.      Calls on the Commission to take measures to respond to the requests for help from European breeders and to support this sector which is being jeopardised by the embargo;

2.      Calls on the Commission to take measures to enable these companies to find new markets.
