    B8‑0399/2014

    Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the abolition of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights

    The European Parliament,

    –       having regard to Council Regulation (EC) No 168/2007 of 15 February 2007 establishing a European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights,

    –       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

    A.     whereas the main tasks of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights are already performed by similar organisations in the Member States;

    B.     whereas on several occasions the Agency has been shown to have used unscientific methods, for example by equating the ban on the wearing of the veil and racism, and has repeatedly adopted stances on issues which have nothing to do with fundamental rights, for example by arguing in favour of the right to vote for non-nationals;

    C.     whereas MEPs’ questions concerning the internal functioning of the Agency have gone unanswered;

    D.     whereas taxpayers have a right to expect their money to be used wisely;

    1.      Calls for Regulation (EC) No 168/2007 to be repealed;

    2.      Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission and the Council.
