on the fight against online child pornography

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the fight against online child pornography  

The European Parliament,

–         having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas, according to data published by the Italian Postal and Communication Police, a total of 18 774 websites suspected of containing links and material relating to child pornography were monitored in Italy during the course of 2014;

B.  whereas as a result of these investigations, 1 745 sites have been shut down, 38 people have been arrested and 428 people are facing charges relating to the online grooming of children and the dissemination and commercialisation of material containing child pornography;

1.  Urges the Commission to provide aggregate data relating to online child pornography in Europe;

2.  Calls on the Commission to take measures to put a stop to this practice;

3.  Calls on the Commission to create a European ‘black list’ of websites containing child pornography, so as to enable the police forces of the Member States to coordinate with one another in the fight against this horrific crime.
