B8-0308/2015

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the safety of state highway SS47, in the Valsugana (Veneto)

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas ANAS, the manager of the Italian road and motorway network, has imposed a speed limit reduction from 90 km/h to 70 km/h in a section of state highway SS47 – the main road of the Valsugana – which links Veneto and Trentino to Austria, in order to prevent the continuous accidents which occur on this stretch of road, most of which are not only attributable to speed but also to a lack of maintenance and to the deterioration of the asphalt;

B.     whereas maintaining the SS47 is an administrative responsibility of government, more specifically of ANAS, the obligations of which include the routine and non-routine maintenance of public roads; whereas the SS47 has been neglected for years, becoming a black spot for accidents, some of which are fatal, while ANAS continues to postpone all the required maintenance operations;

1.      Calls on the Commission to take action with regard to the lack of maintenance and to the speed limit reduction measures in order to ensure road safety and to protect the members of the public who use the SS47 daily;

2.      Calls on the Commission, furthermore, to allocate EU funds for the maintenance of this highway which links the Veneto region to the rest of Europe.
