Motion for a European Parliament resolution on extension of the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1337/2013 to sausages and to pig meat, sheep meat and poultry meat derivatives
B8‑0607/2015

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas, under Regulation (EU) No 1337/2013, consumers of pig meat, sheep meat and poultry meat are provided with information on the labelling regarding the location in which the animal was reared and slaughtered;

B.     whereas, under that Regulation, it is also possible to insert the word 'origin...' followed by the name of the Member State or third country, but only if the animal was born, reared and slaughtered in one single Member State or third country; whereas the consumer will be sure of purchasing a product originating entirely from a single Member State only if the word 'origin' appears on the label;

C.     whereas this labelling scheme is only valid for pig meat, poultry meat and sheep meat and not for derivatives such as hams and charcuterie; whereas sausages, however, are a prized speciality in many parts of Europe;

1.      Considers it important to ensure that maximum transparency regarding the origin of the product is recognised and also extended to sausages and meat derivatives covered by Regulation (EU) No 1337/2013;

2.      Proposes therefore a legislative measure to extend the provisions of Regulation (EU) No 1337/2013 to sausages and to and pig meat, sheep meat and poultry meat derivatives.
