Motion for a European Parliament resolution on measures to support the development of agricultural biotechnologies  

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas the development of agricultural biotechnology is to be considered a goal to pursue in order to ensure that European production is efficient and to tackle the issue of climate change;

B.     whereas the aim of the common agricultural policy is to guarantee an efficient food-production system;

C.     whereas the EU has drawn up the Horizon 2020 programme also in order to fund agriculture and silviculture projects;

D.     whereas the EU, through the European innovation partnership entitled ‘Agricultural Productivity and sustainability’ (EIP-AGRI), intends to provide impetus to agricultural research;

E.     whereas EIP-AGRI is a necessary tool for facilitating innovative research solutions and research in the sector and to develop a research agenda that is more focused on the needs of farmers and silviculturalists;

1.      Calls on the Commission to earmark financial resources to support agricultural research in order to strengthen one of the most important sectors of the EU economy.
