Motion for a Parliament resolution on merging or closing down the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) and the European Training Foundation (ETF)

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Council Regulation (EEC) No 337/75 of 10 February 1975,

–       having regard to Council Regulation (EEC) No 1360/90 of 7 May 1990,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) was established in 1975, is based in Thessaloniki, Greece, and has a budget of EUR 17.9 million, and whereas its remit is to ‘assist the Commission in encouraging, at Community level, the promotion and development of vocational training and of in-service training’;

B.     whereas the European Training Foundation was established in 1990, is based in Turin, Italy, and has a budget of EUR 20.1 million, and whereas its remit is to ‘contribute to the development of vocational training systems by strengthening cooperation in this field’;

1.      Calls on the Commission and the Council to close down these two agencies or at least merge them on a single site, with a view to achieving substantial savings.
