B8-0798/2015

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on support for child victims of violence

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to the EU Agenda for the Rights of the Child,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.     whereas there are various types of violence which endanger the healthy psychological and physical development of a child, which can be classified as follows: physical abuse, psychological abuse, failure to provide appropriate care (neglect, inappropriate care during a given period, excessive care), sexual abuse (within the family or outside the family) and violence witnessed within the family;

B.     whereas the short- and long-term consequences of child abuse are serious from a psychopathological point of view and can produce internal psychological wounds that are difficult to heal;

C.     whereas children can find support through anti-violence centres that work in prevention at all levels of child abuse, both through training in schools and by welcoming children at their centres;

D.     whereas many of these centres are at risk of closure due to a lack of funding;

1.      Calls on the Commission to establish a single fund for EU Member States with a view to financing these centres.
