Motion for a European Parliament resolution on support for child victims of violence
The European Parliament,
– having regard to the EU Agenda for the Rights of the Child,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas there are various types of violence which endanger the healthy psychological and physical development of a child, which can be classified as follows: physical abuse, psychological abuse, failure to provide appropriate care (neglect, inappropriate care during a given period, excessive care), sexual abuse (within the family or outside the family) and violence witnessed within the family;
B. whereas the short- and long-term consequences of child abuse are serious from a psychopathological point of view and can produce internal psychological wounds that are difficult to heal;
C. whereas children can find support through anti-violence centres that work in prevention at all levels of child abuse, both through training in schools and by welcoming children at their centres;
D. whereas many of these centres are at risk of closure due to a lack of funding;
1. Calls on the Commission to establish a single fund for EU Member States with a view to financing these centres.
