Motion for a European Parliament resolution on immigration emergency: unsustainable pressure on London and review of relations with the EU.

The European Parliament,

–       having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.      whereas British Home Secretary Theresa May recently referred to an 'immigration emergency' in the UK, making no distinction between EU and third-country immigrants, maintaining that that current immigration levels were 'unsustainable', placing too much 'pressure on infrastructures, such as accommodation and transport, and on public services, such as schools and hospitals';

B.     whereas the British Home Secretary also expressed the wish to renegotiate relations with the EU in this area;

1.       Calls on the Commission and the Council to take careful note of the UK's stance on immigration and reconsider the policy of indiscriminate acceptance advocated up to now, in favour of a rigorous selection process that takes account of the real needs of each Member State.
