Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the establishment of a monitoring agency for locally produced products
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Articles 3 and 4 of Regulation (EC) No 852/2004,
– having regard to Article 9(1)(i) and Article 26 of Regulation (EC) No 1169/2011,
– having regard to Article 22 and subsequent articles, Chapter III, of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas, over the past 20 years, Europeans have shown an ever growing preference for organic, locally produced products;
B. whereas the international organisation 'Slow Food', which has always worked to ensure that food production retains a link with local traditions and local areas, has been very successful;
C. whereas the 'Chilometri 0' (local production) campaign conducted by the Veneto Region in Italy received good feedback and resulted in Regional Law No 7 of 25 July 2008;
1. Calls on the Commission to propose the establishment of a monitoring agency for locally produced products, to ensure a common, stable regulatory framework for all Member States.
