Motion for a European Parliament resolution on Syria: coordinating Russian and US operations and the need for EU involvement
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas, according to the Russian defence ministry's spokesman, Igor Konashenkov, Russia is ready to accept the US's proposal to coordinate military action against Islamic State in Syria and only a few technical details now remain to be discussed by experts from the Russian defence ministry and the Pentagon;
B. whereas Russia and the US are moving closer and closer towards an agreement on the resolution of the Syrian conflict every day;
1. Calls on the EU institutions to step up their efforts in this direction if the EU wishes to be a player on the international stage and not simply to watch on from the sidelines.
