The European Parliament,

A.  whereas in many cases asylum seekers are being housed in very small towns and villages, where the ratio of local inhabitants to asylum seekers is 1:1;

B.  having regard to the problems which such towns and villages, their authorities and their inhabitants face in dealing with the obvious problems caused by the huge influx of new people who are not self-sufficient and cannot be assimilated into local society because of their culture, religion and customs;

1.  Calls on the Commission to put forward legislative proposals and take the measures urgently required to address these problems and to put a limit on the ratio between local inhabitants and asylum seekers.
