Motion for a European Parliament resolution on reshaping legislation in the field of safeguarding Europe’s musical heritage
B8-0383/2016

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas music is a pinnacle of cultural achievement for all European States;

B.  whereas the ever-increasing cuts made by Member States in the cultural sector, and thus also to music, will inexorably result in the loss of Europe’s immense and precious musical heritage;

C.  whereas musicians, musicians associations and professional musicians organisations are increasingly having to survive in belittling social and financial circumstances, amid the regular and unrelenting closure of many major venues;

1.  Believes that greater attention needs to be paid to this matter, which should be treated as a priority;

2.  Proposes that action be taken to safeguard Europe’s musical heritage and promote musical culture.
