Motion for a European Parliament Resolution on rewriting the rules regarding educational courses on lawfulness for young people, students and workers

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas education on lawfulness is intended to foster full understanding and application of societal rules, the values of democracy and the exercise of citizenship rights;

B.  whereas education about lawfulness means disseminating a culture of civic values;

C.  whereas it is essential that people understand that society and life are based on fundamental values, such as dignity and freedom;

D.  whereas the courses, in their own merit, could become an essential cultural basis for supporting individuals’ growth, particularly among young people;

E.  whereas the principle of lawfulness could represent a useful means for peaceful education and coexistence, and focusing on that principle could encourage responsible participation in social and civic life;

1.  Calls for greater attention to be devoted to the issue, which should be considered a priority;

2.  Calls on the Commission to establish regulations for Member States regarding educational courses on lawfulness for young people, students and workers.
