Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the parliamentary immunity of HDP Members of the Turkish Parliament
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas in stripping the 138 members of the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) in the Turkish Parliament of their immunity, Turkey has definitively abandoned the framework of democracy and is following a path towards presidential dictatorship;
1. Urges the Council, the Commission and the HR/VP to make representations to the Turkish Government in order to secure the immediate restoration to HDP MPs of their parliamentary immunity, an inalienable right in any parliamentary democracy;
2. Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Turkish Government.
