on the attacks on Christians in Nigeria

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the attacks on Christians in Nigeria   

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas on Tuesday, 31 May, Fulani Muslims attacked the village of Ninte (Kaduna State) in Nigeria;


B.  whereas the house of pastor Saleh Yamusa of the Evangelical Church Winning All was set on fire and the pastor managed to escape, but three Christians were killed in the attack, according to a witness, and Christian homes were burned down;

C.  having regard to another case which took place in the State of Niger on 29 May in the city of Pandogari in which a young Muslim gathered together his fellow-Muslims and attacked a 24-year old Christian and killed him;

D.  whereas these Muslim rioters went on to burn down the Fellowship Baptist Church and ransacked another Christian church and also, reportedly, killed two other Christians;

1.  Calls on the Commission to make its development assistance to Nigeria dependent on the protection of Christians and to support persecuted Christians in the world by all the means at its disposal;

2.  Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Commission and the Council.
