on the escalation of the war in Yemen

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the escalation of the war in Yemen  

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Title V of the Treaty on European Union,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas the situation in Yemen has recently deteriorated;

B.  whereas the number of civilian victims is constantly rising and the war – which was initially a local crisis – has already developed into a regional conflict involving several factions supported by different Gulf nations;

C.  whereas the EU has signed cooperation agreements with the Gulf Cooperation Council and with Yemen in accordance with Articles 206, 207, 216, 217, 218 and 219 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union;

1.  Calls on the Commission to open a dialogue with the factions involved in the conflict in order to act as a mediator and put an end to the violence.
