MOTION FOR A RESOLUTION on an information strategy and coordinated fight against uveitis

Motion for a European Parliament resolution on an information strategy and coordinated fight against uveitis

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Article 168(1) TFEU,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas, with regard to ophthalmology, the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory eye diseases is of a particularly complex nature;

B.  having regard to the progressively disabling impact of those diseases, which means that, in almost all cases, patients have to stop working, with inevitable adverse repercussions on their income;

1.  Notes the importance of having updated statistics on the number of patients suffering from uveitis in the EU;

2.  Underlines the huge importance of forms of support, both financial and non-financial, by the Member States;

3.  Calls on the Commission, using the powers vested in it by the Treaties and in compliance with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality, to draw up an information strategy, combat uveitis in a coordinated manner and provide support to patients, in order to reduce the negative impact the diseases have on those suffering from them.
