Motion for a European Parliament resolution on protecting craft industry in Italy and Europe
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas craft industry in Italy and Europe should be protected and promoted on the internal and international markets;
B. whereas, according to the Association of Artisans and Small Businesses Mestre (CGIA), the number of craft enterprises in Italy decreased by over 145 000 between 2009 and 2017, with some of the categories worst affected being road haulage (-30 %), carpentry and joinery (-27.7 %), construction (-27.6 %), furniture making (-23.8 %), mechanical engineering (-22.2 %), glass and ceramics (-22.1 %), jewellery and watchmaking (-19.9 %);
C. whereas this sector is important for the Italian economy and employs hundreds of thousands of workers;
1. Calls on the Commission to adopt special support measures to protect craft industry, enable its economic recovery and boost employment in this key sector in Italy and Europe;
2. Calls on the Commission to run information campaigns on the added value generated by craft industry, which is a typical feature of our regions.
