Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the introduction of a common history textbook

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas without a real sense of belonging to a common identity the European Union is destined to lose the support of its citizens;

B.  whereas there is a need to promote joint cultural and educational initiatives at EU level;

C.  whereas there is already a common Franco-German history textbook, which has been published since 2006;

1.  Calls on the Commission to submit proposals with a view to publishing a common textbook in order to promote the teaching of history from a European perspective.
