Motion for a European Parliament resolution on encouraging biodynamic farming  

The European Parliament,

–  having regard to Rule 133 of its Rules of Procedure,

A.  whereas pushing agriculture and food production towards sustainability, quality and low-risk technologies is an EU policy objective;

B.  whereas organic and biodynamic farming systems are innovative means of tackling the challenges facing the EU in the area of agriculture and food production;

C.  whereas biodynamics is a form of organic agriculture that delivers benefits to the farm, including healthier soil, better crops and more vibrant ecology;

D.  whereas biodynamic agriculture could play a significant role in mitigating the impact of climate change;

1.  Calls on the Commission and the Member States to promote a minimisation in the use of pesticides that are detrimental to health and the environment and to develop measures to protect and support biodynamic and organic agriculture within the scope of the CAP;

2.  Urges the national, local and regional authorities to encourage short supply chains and the consumption by children of local and seasonal fruit and vegetables produced using methods that comply with the standards of biodynamic and organic farming;

3.  Instructs its President to forward this resolution to the Council, the Commission and the governments and parliaments of the Member States.
