Motion for a European Parliament resolution on the harmonisation of direct payments to farmers
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas direct payments to farmers in the Baltic States are the lowest in the European Union;
B. whereas one of the main objectives of the CAP, in accordance with Article 39 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, is to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural community;
C. whereas farmers ensure the stability of rural areas and contribute to building the future;
D. whereas preserving small-scale and family farms is one of the EU’s main objectives, and strengthening the middle class guarantees each country’s stability;
E. whereas during its Presidency of the Council, Finland proposed cutting the budget for Lithuania for the period 2021-2027 by EUR 2 billion, which would seriously damage the Lithuanian economy and agriculture and further undermine Lithuanian farmers’ competitiveness in the EU single market;
1. Calls for the harmonisation of direct payments to farmers throughout the European Union;
2. Calls on the Member States to comply with Article 39 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
