The European Parliament,

 having regard to Articles 42 and 43 of the Treaty on European Union,

 having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,

A. whereas, on 13 May 2019, the Council made the Sahel a ‘strategic priority’ for the EU and its Member States;

B. whereas jihadist groups are re-emerging in the region;

C. whereas France is bearing most of the human and financial costs of military engagement to ensure the safety of all Member States;

D. whereas the EU training missions (EUTM) in the Sahel are vital but insufficient;

1. Believes that Member States should show solidarity with France and the G5 Sahel countries by making contributions in the form of funding or logistics;
