17.1. Euroopa Liidu Solidaarsusfondi kasutuselevõtmine: toetus Itaaliale, Sloveeniale, Austriale, Kreekale ja Prantsusmaale seoses 2023. aastal toimunud looduskatastroofidega (A10-0002/2024 - Georgios Aftias)

  Le Président. – L'ordre du jour appelle à présent les explications de vote sur le rapport Georgios Aftias - Mobilisation du Fonds de solidarité de l’Union européenne: assistance à l’Italie, à la Slovénie, à l’Autriche, à la Grèce et à la France à la suite des catastrophes naturelles survenues en 2023.

  Dick Erixon (ECR). – Herr talman! Överstatliga socialistfonder skapar perversa incitament. De som inte sköter beredskapen belönas. De som gjort sitt jobb får betala.

Naturkatastrofer är tragedier, och det är inte värdigt att de utnyttjas som ursäkt för ökad ekonomisk omfördelning inom EU. Att låta andra betala, till exempel om holländarna skulle sluta underhålla sin vall mot havet vore lika orimligt som om Sverige skulle kräva kompensation av Sydeuropa för våra kalla vintrar.

Självfallet kan länder hjälpa varandra. Som när våra skogar brann och Polens brandförsvar kom till undsättning. Det var frivillig och äkta solidaritet.

Ansvar för civil beredskap ska förbli nationell. Det är ingen överstatlig fråga och kostnaderna ska inte dumpas på skötsamma länder. Sverigedemokraterna röstar nej till skadliga bidrag, inte bara för Sveriges, utan för hela Europas, väl.

  Seán Kelly (PPE). – A Uachtaráin, I was pleased to vote in favour of this resolution to mobilise the European Union Solidarity Fund to assist regions affected by severe natural disasters in Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Greece and France. These disasters have inflicted devastating damages, with estimates reaching billions of euros, and have profoundly impacted the lives of countless citizens.

While this resolution gives our support for a critically important financial response to the situations in these Member States, we should be clear that it is also a powerful expression of solidarity and support from the European Union to its members, as we have seen countless times over the years. It underscores our commitment to stand by those in need during times of crisis. By approving this mobilisation, we are sending a clear message that the EU is united in its resolve to help our fellow Europeans rebuild and recover.

In conclusion, my vote today reflects the commitment to solidarity, resilience and proactive measures for a safer Europe.
