Report without debate (A5-0295/2001) by Mr Christos Folias on behalf of the Committee on Budgetary Control on a proposal for a Council regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 1267/1999 establishing an instrument for structural policies for preaccession.
Folias (PPE-DE), rapporteur. – (EL) Mr President, I understand that the Commission is to make a statement on my report and I should very much like to hear it.
Reding,Commission. – (FR) Mr President, Mr Barnier was in contact yesterday with the Chair of the Committee on Budgetary Control to explain to her the Commission’s position on this subject. I can therefore assure you that while it will not accept the amendments proposed, the Commission will take the necessary steps to achieve the outcome sought by Parliament, and that when the amended regulation is adopted by the Council the Commission will make a statement in which it will confirm that the provisions for combating irregularities and fraud contained in the financing agreements signed between the Commission and recipient countries will be strengthened, and it will commit itself to improving the information given to Parliament.
