5.8. PNR-SWIFT (vote)

- Before the vote on paragraph 13

  Hubert Pirker (PPE-DE). – (DE) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, what matters here is the added value that we want the exchange of data to bring about for the citizens of the European Union, which means to say that we should insist, when the US authorities discover a terrorist suspect, on that information being forwarded to their counterparts in the EU, in the shape of Europol and Eurojust. I therefore want to put an oral amendment, in the interests of security, as follows:

‘Expects that the US authorities, in the case of acknowledged terrorist threat, are obliged to immediately inform the EU authorities about this suspicion;’

(DE) I hope that you are all able to agree to this amendment in the interests of Europe’s citizens.

- Before the vote on paragraph 17

  Piia-Noora Kauppi (PPE-DE). – Mr President, this is an oral amendment to the last indent of Amendment 4, by the PSE Group. I shall read the oral amendment, which is slightly different to our voting list text.

The indent should read as follows: ‘as policymaker, to ensure, in cooperation with central banks and financial institutions, that European payment systems, including the updated system for wholesale payments “TARGET2” and the planned system for target securities if it becomes a reality, are fully compliant with European data protection law; calls for the ECB to provide the European Parliament with the assessment of such compliance;’

In view of the time, the President consulted Parliament on the issue of whether or not it intended to proceed with the vote. Parliament decided by electronic vote to proceed with the vote.

  Димитър Стоянов (ITS). – Господин Председател, на последното гласуване аз се въздържах дали да продължим, защото нямам нищо против да си загубя обедната почивката, за да гласувам. Но не мисля, че начинът, по който се гласува, е най-подходящият. Аз просто не мога да насмогна на бързината, на която вие гласувате. Това парламент ли е, европейски и демократичен, или е комунистически, в който всички вдигат ръка и всичко се приема набързо- набързо?
