– Before the vote:

  Alexander Alvaro, Berichterstatter. − Herr Präsident! Die Kollegen werden vielleicht Verständnis dafür haben, dass, nachdem das Europäische Parlament im Februar dieses Abkommen zurückgewiesen hat, es notwendig ist, klarzustellen, dass wir inzwischen in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kommission eine deutliche Verbesserung dieses Textes erreicht haben.

Ich nutze die Gelegenheit, den Kollegen von der EVP-, S&D-, Verts/ALE- und GUE/NGL-Fraktion, die daran mitgearbeitet haben, zu danken für die Hilfe bei der Entwicklung eines Abkommens in schwierigem Fahrwasser, das sowohl das Recht unserer Bürger auf Privatheit schützt als auch ihr Recht auf Sicherheit. Ich möchte in Erinnerung rufen, dass dies zum ersten Mal eine Möglichkeit gewesen ist, den Vertrag von Lissabon mit Leben zu füllen und nicht nur Buchstaben vor sich zu haben.

  Rui Tavares (GUE/NGL). - Mr President, I call your attention to an amendment to this report that asks for the Council and the Commission to deal with Parliament in the appointment of the EU official to be posted to Washington to control the extraction of data. I kindly ask that you personally get in touch with the Council and the Commission as soon as possible in order to do this with proper parliamentary oversight.
