Krzysztof Lisek, rapporteur. – (PL) Mr President, I should like to thank all shadow rapporteurs and all other institutions that have contributed towards the creation of this report. I would stress that this is a very important report. It is important not only for us – the European Parliament – but it so happens that this is the report awaited by the government, the parliament and the proud nation of Georgia.
(Applause)
Before the vote on Amendment 5:
Hannes Swoboda (S&D). – (DE) Mr President, I have tabled a motion on behalf of my group that is based on information that is, at best, incomplete or possibly partly incorrect. For this reason, I would like to replace this motion with the following oral amendment and hope that the Members can vote in favour. The new wording is as follows:
‘Calls on the Georgian authorities to refrain from using disproportional political pressure against the political opponents of the government; reminds that a competitive and effective multi-party system is essential for the consolidation of democracy in Georgia.’
(The oral amendment was rejected)
Hannes Swoboda, on behalf of the S&D Group. – (DE) Mr President, I must take this into consideration. I trust that this is not a protest against the substance of this motion, in other words, that you are against multiparty democracy. However, I must take this into consideration.
(Applause)
I simply wish to withdraw my first motion because Mr Lisek’s report is a very good one. I do not wish it to contain any element based on incorrect information. I regret that you are refusing to accept the oral amendment. However, I wish to withdraw the original motion, so there is no need to vote on it.
