5. Verklaringen van het voorzitterschap

  Przewodniczący. − Pierwszego grudnia od 23 lat obchodzony jest Światowy Dzień AIDS. W tym roku przypada smutna 30. rocznica odkrycia pierwszego przypadku tej choroby. Niestety, pomimo starań naukowców nie udało się dotąd skutecznie powstrzymać rozprzestrzeniania się wirusa HIV. Co więcej, badania wykazują, że w czasie kryzysu ilość zachorowań wzrasta. Światowy Dzień AIDS jest okazją, by okazać nasze wsparcie dla żyjących z wirusem, często cierpiących, ludzi oraz wspomnieć tych, którzy przegrali walkę z AIDS.

Let me make the second statement. We are voting today on Croatia’s Accession Treaty. During this journey towards European membership, dialogue between our parliaments has been a driving force in moving forward an impressive number of reforms, but also in building true friendship. I was myself on an official visit to Croatia a few weeks ago and I remember the extraordinary welcome I received, and it was a welcome for all the Members of the European Parliament. It is a great pleasure and honour for me to announce that today we welcome the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Mr Luka Bebić, who is present in the gallery.
