Rebecca Harms (Verts/ALE).(DE) Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to express my astonishment about the fact that, before we take a controversial vote on the subject of shale gas this week, I am being made to walk through a large gateway set up by companies from the oil and gas industry, and past a stand where MEPs are being offered champagne to encourage them to buy the industry’s superficial arguments.

I think that at a time when there are repeated discussions about the European institutions and lobbyists becoming too close, such exhibitions are inappropriate. I do not know whether I carry sufficient influence to make this happen, but in my view this exhibition should be removed prior to the vote on shale gas.

President. – The authorities will be informed of your indignation concerning this matter.

I suggest we now start work.

Herbert Reul (PPE).(DE) Madam President, I am slowly becoming tired of situations in which, if a person does not share a political position, an exhibition is described as bad, while if it is a view a person considers to be good, it is a good exhibition. Either there must be no exhibitions with political content or anyone may exhibit. Equal rights for all! It is not only the green view that should be decisive here.

(Applause)

President. – You have had the chance to express your point of view and we will leave the incident there.

I would like to inform you that, in accordance with Article 3(4) of the Rules of Procedure, the Committee on Legal Affairs, at its meeting of 6 November 2012, verified the credentials and unanimously proposed that the mandate of Patricia van der Kammen, MEP, be validated with effect from 3 October 2012.

I propose therefore that we validate this mandate.

Are there any comments?

This mandate is therefore validated.
