Lívia Járóka (PPE), in writing. − I would like to welcome this report aiming at the better harmonisation of protection under the Common European Asylum System, with special regard to the objective of providing higher standards of treatment for asylum seekers in reception. The provisions laid out in this proposal – e.g. those regarding persons with special needs, establishing the opportunity to contact social workers and religious visitors, or providing free legal assistance – represent an important step forward in the asylum package, harmonising national rules on reception conditions in line with international law. It is very important that according to the new rules Member State authorities must rapidly direct victims of torture to a care centre that is appropriate to their situation. The proposal also contains a guarantee for the access of minor asylum seekers to education and for unaccompanied minors to be supervised by legal guardians who advise and protect the child as well as ensure that all decisions are taken in the child’s best legal, social, health, psychological, material and educational interests.
